Element Six’ synthetic diamond and CBN abrasives—including micron-sized diamonds, wheel-sized diamonds, saw-sized diamonds, and CBN—are used in a wide range of industrial applications, such as the grinding, polishing, and cutting of automotive parts, tool grinding, semiconductor component processing, and cutting and drilling in civil engineering and construction. HPHT is the method of synthesizing diamonds by mimicking the conditions under which diamonds form naturally. High pressure is generated by the concentration of hydraulic force in a small area. At such high pressure and high temperature (HPHT), carbon atoms dissolve in molten metals such as iron, cobalt, and nickel, turning them into synthetic diamond particles. They can be bonded together by sintering at high pressures and temperatures to form composite materials called PCDs, which are widely used in various industrial applications, such as machining, cutting, and oil and gas drilling.
